‘ Our Tassie property , Clairveaux , was one of a cluster of farms owned by Wayne ’ s family ,’ Pam begins . ‘ His father had racehorses and Wayne , who was always involved there , took over Clairveaux when he was in his 20 ’ s . We lived there for another 25 years . Wayne eventually bought more ground , and we ran sheep , cattle and a few horses for work . We used to drive sheep and cattle to the lake country . We ’ d drive them along the road with our horses and that would take us a long but interesting six days .’
Pam had always loved Quarter Horses , especially palominos . She loved the AQHA stallion , Rule Breakin , from Lord Ben Farms , so when the 3yo palomino colt , Playin By The Rules , came up for sale through Greg McNamara , she and Wayne flew up to Cobbity , NSW , to look at him .
‘ I just loved him . He had the most amazing temperament , so we bought him and took him back to Tasmania , and that ’ s basically how we started with Quarter Horses . We took Playin By The Rules to a few all-breed shows , and someone suggested we also take him to some AQHA shows . So , we took him to a ‘ B ’ Class Quarter Horse Show and were hooked ! We bought some AQHA broodmares and made Clairveaux our stud name and prefix . We seriously began breeding and have been loyal AQHA members ever since . As a point of interest , Playin By The Rules is actually still with us at the age of 26 !’
The couple started to attend the AQHA Shows in Tassie and would always try to head over for the three big shows every year . Pam explains that it would cost them around $ 3,000 per trip , just to get over that stretch of water and back .
‘ When we started getting older , the kids weren ’ t that interested in the farm , so we decided it was time for us to semi-retire and make the move to the mainland . We sold up and six years ago settled on a property at Harston , Victoria , where we re-established Clairveaux Quarter Horses .’
Inspired , Pam then did her AI Course through the Melbourne University , at one of the University ’ s former campuses , located at Glen Ormiston . Pam
