‘ My loss of confidence after the accident affected Mum , too . I was okay at Q18 , while in the mindset of competition , but when we turned the horses out during winter , overcoming the mental hurdle to get back on was difficult . It was like learning to ride again . It ’ s taken time to overcome that fear of getting hurt on a horse again , but that re-connection and horsemanship was a ride-by-ride process . Currently , I ’ ve paired with CP Faith Abounds , aka Dee , and our latest champion , How About Me , aka Tommy . As beautiful as they are individual , Tommy and Dee have helped regain my confidence , happiness and competitive edge . After Sid , I ’ d doubted that would happen , but I like to think he watches over us all .’
Dee and Tommy continuously remind Nikita to practise good listening and intuition — an everyday challenge of both physical and mental strength . The wisdom , patience , trust and connection to the horse is what she loves . Since her accident she ’ s worked hard to enjoy the journey , releasing her of the pressure of titles and accolades . Instead she focuses on her knowledge and happiness , to be involved and to show up daily .
