Landmark Campdraft T he week before the start of the Classic saw a generous dump of rain, so much work was required to ensure the arena was safe for competition. After an “all nighter” on a tractor and postponing a day the Classic kicked into full swing for the 2016 event. In a thrilling final full of big runs it was Bundarra competitor, Cal Gibson aboard the chestnut filly Yulgilbar Dance Elegance (Playboy Roy x Winderadeen Pure Elegance) that took line honours this year and walked away with a cool $40,000. Yulgilbar Dance Elegance sold in 2015 for $54,000 on behalf of the Myer family principals of Yulgilbar Quarter Horse stud and was purchased by Simcal Trading. and the $18,000 Navaho Trailers trophy trailer was Jon Tempelton on the black stallion Royalle Signature (Acres Destiny x Royalle Cygnet) owned by David Bell. Second place was Luke Bennett on gelding, Mintona Nic Nac, (Millionnic Chic x Mintona She’s Cool); 3rd Laura Macintosh on Bruce and Julie McNaughton’s mare Cuban Cigars (Hazelwood Conman x Duloc Peppy’s Destiny) and 4th was Felicity Burton on F & G Cowhorses roan stallion, Oaks Stylish Cal came into the final four points behind the joint leaders, Ben Hall on Hazelwood Coronation (Hazelwood Conman x Docs Moonlight, owned by Dempsey Pastoral Company) and Pete Comiskey on Binnia Oracle (Binnia Berocca x Orotons Destiny, owned by Woodburn Working Dogs & Horses), and ran a sizzling 92 points (23,65,4) to snatch the lead in the final stages of the draft. The 2011 filly came from one of Yulgilbar’s most prolific broodmares that has produced 19 foals for the stud with 16 being by Playboy Roy. Yulgilbar Stud manager, Mr Steve Allen, was thrilled when informed about the win, as was Mrs Myer. They credited resident trainer, Bruce Holmes, for laying such a solid foundation on the filly. Coming in equal 2nd/3rd was last year’s runner up, Pete Comiskey riding Binnia Oracle (Binnia Berocca x Orotons Destiny), and Adam Wheeler aboard Westons Sizzling (Bald Hills Sizzler x Rippingale Dans Chilli) on a 266 aggregate. A popular 4th was Mac Shann aboard Cantaur Park Moorae (One Moore Daddy x Sylvia Vale Desirae) owned by the McKeering family; 5th Chic’s Playgirl (Destiny’s Mr Chic x Scarlett Lena) owned by Pete and Shari Knudsen and Kylie Barnett, who was a successful finalist with two horses secured a 6th on Hunter View Classy Chic (Millionnic Chic x Cedar Downs Royal Oak). The Prydes EasiFeed Australian Performance Horse Challenge had record entries this year, with the eventual winner of $8,000 first prize Cal Gibson aboard Yulgilbar Dance Elegance Q-71334 (Playboy Roy x Winderadeen Pure Elegance) were hard fought winners of the Landmark Campdraft Windstorm (Peptos Stylish Oak x Oaks Windstorm); 5th Matt Durkin Reality Peptos (Peptogrady x A little Wiser). F & G Cowhorses again filled the placings in 6th with their entrant Willdraft Aristocrat. Backing up their form from the 2015 Classic win, was Victorian competitor Matt Holz, in the Martins Stock Haulage Open Campdraft. Matt was riding the Peter Aposto owned stallion Darma Acres of Impact (Acres Destiny x Colway Crystal). Continuing his dominant run Matt also placed 2nd with Sheros Traditional Acres (Acres Destiny x Kyreema Shimmer) owned by Andrew Sheridan; 3rd was the previous Classic winning combination of Ben McNaughton on The Ranch Tiptoe; equal 4th was Vicki Hiscock riding Mewburn Bamalam and Zac Jackson riding Denny’s Acres and rounding out the placings was Morgan Marks on Repeater. The Charlie Maher Memorial Young Guns Campdraft was hotly contested seeing popular Chinchilla competitor Madeline Moloney taking out the win aboard Stratton TKO. The reining 2015 Chinchilla Grandfather Clock winner was kindly loaned to her by John Mulcahy. Second place was Ben McNaughton on The Ranch Tiptoe; equal 4th/5th was Joe Maher and Joe Duggan, equal 6th/7th being Lewis Dorney and Nathan Burtenshaw. The RB Sellars Masters Campdraft saw Robert Neville aboard The Ranch Bailey (Hideout Heckel x The Ranch Dove) claim victory. The eight year old gelding was purchased for Troy and Sally Clark in 2015 for $18,000 as a Novice horse, and quickly came into Open ranks. Robert rates this win as a highlight in his career and has already purchased again this year to compete again in the event in 2017. Rounding out the placings were 2nd place to Nathan Sheehan on Stormy and Stylish (Reyn Storm x Arglye Iam Stylish); equal 3rd was Mick Cole riding Mynxs Destiny (Acres Destiny x Royal Peppy Spin), a maiden mare owned by Wayne and Trudy Berry, and Troy Palmer aboard Moranjee Romeo’s Child (Acres Destiny x Dunbar Donna) owned by Terry Snow. The Merial Stallion Shootout was again run over three rounds with some amazing runs in both the Camdraft and indoor arena. Nigel Kable was dominant across the board with his evergreen stallion, Chevin Ivory (Lindsay x Chevin Ebony), coming out on top with the win. Second place was Allan Young and Acres Liberty Beau x Jessie Liberty Belle), and coming in third was Huon Smith and Boonara Mentor (Dogwood Comet x Warrenbri Eve). Round winners included Round 1 - Nigel Kable and Chevin Ivory; Round 2 - Allan Young and Acres Liberty Bea and Friday night cut out was Tom Williamson aboard his up and coming young imported stud, One Time Jack (One Time Pepto x Tootsie Rey).
