T he QH mare Heart Skips A Beat, Q80167, affectionately known as “Dell” ridden by Rachelle Cole, won the EA65A class at the TEG international three day eventing Qld state championships held at Tamborine on July 26. Day 1 saw her compete in the dressage where she finished a very creditable 4th. The following day was the cross country leg of the competition and after a flawless run, and expertly ridden by Rachelle, she jumped to lead the field, and was able to consolidate her position on day 3 with a double clear run during the show jumping. Dell was bred by Kevin Peaty and foaled in 2013. As a yearling she showed loads of potential and competed in yearling versatility classes where she had a very successful year. She achieved 2 AQHA national champion awards in Hunter In Hand and Yearling led Trail at Q 15, as well as AQHA high point HIH and Yearling led Trail the same year. Dell was also the Qld state champion HIH and Yearling led trail in 2015 and at Q 16 she won the 2YO led Trail. This was on top of numerous wins at state level that left her with a total of 209.5 AQHA points. Andrew Shield was quick to realize her potential and purchased Dell as a 2YO. She was being prepared for a show career when Rachelle suggested she would make a very good eventer. As her training progressed her athletic ability became apparent and coupled with a stylish way of moving it was time to see if a Quarter Horse had what it takes to make an eventer. Dell soon proved that she would excel in this field and being a young mare her career is only beginning and it is now obvious that she will continue to be a champion ambassador for her breed.
