The Open Derby is always one of
the most exciting featured events
for the Futurity each year, and this
one did not disappoint! In front
of a large crowd at the prestigious
Tamworth AELEC, first to cross the
Ariat Australia timeline for the was
Dean Holden, on board a red roan
mare ‘Stylish Player Q-81741’ on the
buzzer, scoring the winning run of
219 points.
The next 14 nominations gave it their
all, but couldn’t hunt that score down.

combination marked 218 points to
claim the Reserve Champion placing.

OPEN PINNACLE was exciting, with
some of the best horses competing for
a tempting $12,000 first prize, $5,000
second prize and $3,000 third prize.
It was Jamie Creek on board David
and Cynthia Merygold’s nomination,
‘Magicool Q-85057’, marking a 225
points, and crowned the 2019 Open
Pinnacle Champions. Not far behind
were Reserve Champions, Lindsey
Wheatley, showing Mark Ruff’s
‘Metallictoy Q-92432’ for 219.5
points. In third place was Heath
Sinclair on Renee Richardson’s horse
‘Spin Cat Q-76652’, marking 217
points.

The AMATEUR NON-PRO CLASSIC
CHALLENGE FINAL was the first
event on the Saturday, with ten
riders competing for the title. This
great event was claimed by Ashleigh
Meagher on David and Cynthia
Merygold’s nomination ‘Tyrell Park
Alil Stormy Q-80112’, being first out
and setting the benchmark for the
class with a 218 points run. With
sponsors and their prizes always
appreciated here, Ashleigh took
home a beautiful handmade Trophy
Saddle stand from our great friends,
Buck and Rochelle, from Swan Creek
Interiors, a pair of Trophy Spurs from
ER Bits & Spurs, a Trophy Buckle made
by Ridetuff Buckles & Jewellery and
sponsored by the NCHA, a Summer
Ripstop Combo Voucher from Giday
Horse Apparel and a $1,000 Voucher
from EquiVibe Australia. There was a
three-way tie for Reserve Champion
this year on a score of 209 points,
with Cameron Read and ‘Quick N
