PRESIDENT REPORT 2024
RICKY GLEN - PRESIDENT CATTLE & TIMED EVENTS PORTFOLIO
Dear Members ,
It ’ s been an interesting time during my first month or two in the Presidents Chair and I am thankful to having a supportive board behind me as well as the ladies in the office to answer any questions that I have . I would also like to thank our past president , Carol Ricketts for helping me to settle into this role .
We have had a resignation from the board of Kate Elliot , I wish Kate all of the best and welcome back to the board Kim Johnson who will be filling the casual vacancy until the next election . Kim will be resuming her International role in dealing with the AmQHA which she has done so for the past several years .
With Kate ’ s resignation , Peter Belden has stepped in to chair of the Judges Portfolio which Peter had done so the previous twelve ( 12 ) months and during that time we saw a successful Judges seminar being held in Queensland which most judges took advantage of to further their education .
I have asked my fellow board members to supply a report for each AQHA magazine to inform the members of what is happening in their portfolio , this has been sadly lacking for a long time and it ’ s a priority of mine to ensure the membership is up on the happenings within the AQHA .
It is great to see the much needed rain come to many areas of Australia which will benefit a great deal of our members as it looked quite bleak there for a while and with cattle and sheep prices taking a hit , it looks like the rain will help boost prices on the up side again .
The AQHA is looking very heathy financially and our new treasurer Rachel Turner will ensure that our money is well spent in the programs that the AQHA continues to support . The Stud Book has been working hard to ensure the “ White Rule ” is covered and the new testing guidelines must be followed for those horses showing excess white , we all know of the other tests that have come up to ensure our breed is covered and the members advised of the outcome of the genetic testing to ensure the stallions they want to breed to are going to cross well with their mares and not produce offspring that may have troubles .
Kane Skopp has some great ideas to market the AQHA and I am sure his report will enlighten you to his proposals .
Same goes for the other portfolios that covers the AQHA , I am sure the directors reports to you will help you understand more of what you elected directors are up too . Within my own portfolio which covers Cattle and Timed events , great things are happening , this side of the industry seems not known to a lot of you but it is a huge part of our industry , campdraft entries at most events are 300 plus riders per event and the registrations , transfers and memberships are huge .
We of course are not forgetting or traditional events which we have supported with Nationals , Judges seminars , Youth world Cup , Trans-Tasman to name only a few so we have also lent our support to the C & T events over the past years and this has paid off tenfold back to the AQHA . We also cover Cutting , Roping , Barrel Racing , Challenge events , Cow Horse to name some of the events my portfolio covers .
Our next board meeting is being held on the 3rd and 4th of February in Melbourne , I hope all members had a great Christmas with family and friends and I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy new year and hope 2024 brings you everything you wish for . With Thanks ,
Ricky Glen ( AQHA President / Cattle and Timed events Portfolio Chairperson )
