If one had known what was beneficial (hita) and what was not beneficial for him (ahita), then one would have used the mind only for his benefit. Now the mind has gone out of control. Now it can only be made still when one attains the knowledge of benefit-harm (hita-ahita). Therefore when ‘we’ give Gnan here, the mind settles down.
