EX-BOXER had to go to Dublin to travel to an International I stayed with the Carruth family and they were very accommodating and they even let me use the Drimnagh Boxing club so I could train to stabilise my weight. KO: What's your role in boxing now? KO: You've told us about the toughest opponent you faced but who was the best boxer that you ever boxed? Roy: Joe Ward, because he has lots of skill and endless energy, and of course my son Callum Nash, who will hopefully surpass what I achieved in my Boxing career Roy: It was an East German lad Dieter Berg, he was very tall and had a beautiful jab and movement. Great skill and a powerful puncher. The 2nd Cuban I boxed in Glasgow was very tough as they had worked out my style after the fight with the 1st Cuban on the Friday night and it was very difficult as I had to change the way I boxed. Roy: Coach with the Ring ABC in Derry. KO: Who is your favourite Amateur Boxer now? KO: Who is your favourite Pro Boxer now? Roy: Carl Froch, because in my view he has not the technical skill you would expect from a World Champion but he has dynamic power and a massive heart and avoids no-one in his weight. Fran’s Summary: KO: What was your Amateur Boxing highlights? Roy: Travelling and representing Ireland for 9 years. Seeing the world and meeting lots of Irish and foreign friends. KO: What was your biggest disappointments in your Amateur Boxing Career? Roy: Losing in 3 National Finals 84, 88 and 91 and never representing Ireland at an Olympics. KO: Have you got any funny boxing stories? Roy: Getting initiated into the Irish Team was quite funny. I was tied up with skipping ropes by the lads and was to be lifted off the ground by a boxer using his teeth only!!! As I looked up all I seen was the full moon of Joe Egan's backside nearing my head. Just as well I was a good mover and quickly rolled on my side to avoid it. Roy Nash gave his heart and soul to Irish boxing, he was definitely one of Ireland’s greatest amateur boxers. Roy achieved so much during his amateur career, he was loved by all who attended the stadium in the 1980’s and 90’s. The crowd at the National Stadium were always guaranteed a great fight when Roy boxed. He was a nonstop pressure, all action Southpaw who was very intelligent in the ring. Roy still lives the clean life, he is still around the featherweight limit at this moment and time. It also looks promising for the next generation of the great Nash Boxing family, Roy’s son Callum won a Juvenile Ulster Title this year. What a great champion Roy Nash was, he must be the only International Boxer ??F?Rv?&?BF?&VB"7V&?( ?0?????RvVV?V?B?$???4?t?D?UU$?T?4?????4$?e$?D???Bd?$?U"t?$?B4?????$%%??2uT?t? ?????D?????
