Anxiety Explained
Written by Eve Millar , S6 On the 8th February 2023 , Mr Bell delivered a training session on Anxiety for staff . Anxiety
Anxiety is a normal and helpful feeling that we all experience . It is our body ’ s way of keeping us safe and promoting our survival . It is one of our very basic and primitive emotions that has a very strong evolutionary basis
If we think about our ancestors they would have needed to respond quickly and appropriate to potential dangers . Anxiety would help prepare the body for this with our fight , flight , freeze response which causes adrenaline and cortisol to be released when we are anxious .
Although we may not need to worry about the same dangers as our ancestors our bodies still react with this response in the present day – to physical dangers but also to our worries and concerns .
