Brother Rice ’ s esteemed eSports team has been dominant since the school ’ s inception in the 1960s . Without video games in the ‘ 60s , eSports was first a board-game competition between rivaling schools . Brother Rice absolutely spanked teams throughout the ‘ 60s at games like Chess , Monopoly , and Battleship .
Once video games came to fruition , Rice won the first eSport State Championship in 1973 , with the inception of Pong . But things fell off

in the late 1970s . Rice then had a five-peat State Championship win streak from 1987 to 1991 , when the feature game was Street Fighter II . In this century , Rice has continued to be a powerhouse in the gaming community , running its eSports State Championships to 23 after a Mario Kart 8 victory .
After a downtime since 2014 , the silence has officially been broken this year . Brother Rice ’ s Head Coach Mr . Kuschel was able to lead the Brother Rice Pixel Warriors to a State Championship this year .
Sophomore Kameron Billingsley and Junior Drew Karcher led the way in Super Smash Bros : Ultimate .
Billingsley honed his skills and learned everything he knows about Smash from Mr . Galli .
“ Kameron and I clicked immediately , I taught him all of my wisdom and he taught me how to do basic algebra , basically giving me a job ,” Galli said .
Karcher , on the other hand , has been quarantined five times , so he ’ s been at home grinding out Smash .
“ I have done nothing but play Smash for days on end ,” Karcher said . “ To me , sleep is for the weak . I just consume 5-Hour Energys 3-4 times a day .”
Mr . Higdon is the Ironman Alum , teacher and coach cements himself as Brother Rice ’ s superhero

The Ironman Triathlon is one of the most intensive and challenging endurance races known to man . Organized by the World Triathlon Corporation , the Ironman consists of a 2.4- mile swim , a 112-mile bicycle ride and a full marathon ( 26.2 miles ), in that order .
To win , one must go through intensive workouts that cannot be completed by just anyone . He must be mentally tough , physically dominant , and stone cold , emotionally .
All of these characteristics have been harnessed by this year ’ s winner of the Ironman Race , Brother Rice ’ s own Mr . Higdon . Higdon not
eslgaming . com only won this year ’ s race , he did so in historic fashion , finishing with a time of 6 hours , 31 minutes
and 15 seconds , which demolished the previous record held by Tim Don of 7 hours and 40 minutes .
After winning the race , Higdon talked about how he trained . “ Knowing that a lot of these athletes have trained their whole lives for this , I needed something major in order to prepare my body for such a task ,” he explained , “ especially because I spend most of my days educating youths about the wonders of Engineering .
“ I decided to go to Africa , where I lived and hunted with cheetahs in order to work on speed . In the Democratic Republic of the Congo , I strengthened my body with the gorillas in a Tarzan-like fashion . Finally , I finished my training by demolishing Mr . Torriglia in a swimming competition .”
