Men’ s Club

By TIM BONINO
Men’ s Club play began last month
On a personal note
Early in January I had the“ opportunity” to undergo a four-way Cardiac Bypass Surgery. I say opportunity
BONINO because I am fortunate
to still be here. Lessons were learned and parts of those will be passed along at some point to hopefully help someone else avoid this, and to seek intervention early.
Thanks and gratitude
Before that though, I would like to extend a sincere thank you to all those who reached out to my wife and I during this time. I have been humbled by the outpouring of support, prayers, and love that this community has offered. You truly touched my heart, and no pun was intended. Charbonneau is a remarkable community and we so appreciate our opportunity to live here. The Beatles said it best,“ You get by with a little help from my friends.” We are doing nicely because of that.
Welcome to the season
Men’ s Club play began on Saturday, March 22 of and play is now in full swing. A new member coffee and meet and greet was held on March 19 with our board. All new members were welcome to attend, along with current members of the board.
Regular Wednesday and Saturday morning play will encompass the usual individual and team games.
All games are set up and scored via Golf Genius, which makes the majority of play on equal terms taking into account one’ s handicap.
This year there are new cut-off dates for responding to requests for play entry. They are Wednesday, for Saturday play, and Sunday, for play on Wednesdays. Please respond to the email requests that are sent out on Golf Genius for those play days.
Mark your calendars
The spring kickoff meeting and breakfast will be held on Saturday, April 12, at 7 a. m. A scramble will follow the meeting. This is a full breakfast sponsored by the Men’ s Club. The location for this will be the dining room. Please RSVP and join us for a lively opening of the season meeting.
The first Men’ s Night Out dinner event will be held on Wednesday, May 14 in the dining room. Dinner will follow a 2 p. m. shotgun golf scramble.
Pace, it’ s not just a salsa
The start of the season is as good a time as any to discuss pace of play. As a wise man once said,“ Pace of play is everybody’ s responsibility. Recent televised golf events have brought this to the forefront with snarky comments from both on course and tower announcers. I, for one, appreciate the verbal darts thrown at the pro players who seem to take endless amounts of time making a decision. In my humble opinion, it’ s a good example of a bad example. In addition to running five-plus hour rounds, there’ s the added burden of endless commercial breaks for televised golf matches. Longer golf rounds and more commercials( which we all love) can lead to less viewing( networks take note).

challenge for sure. We become ill, lose a loved one, can’ t remain independent anymore, etc., etc. My team of volunteers is eager to help with all these stages because we’ ve experienced them too. Feel free to call any one of us when you just need a sympathetic ear?
Until next month, I wish you joy and health.
