The Niners By CATHY LOFFINK
We welcome two new members to the club |
The Niner winter events have proven to be fun and successful , ending with a bowling excursion to Langers in Sherwood . Some ladies showed hidden
LOFFINK talents , while others tested our balance with the balls ending up in the gutters . Evidently my ball decided it wanted to be nice to the pins and left them standing most the time .
In this article I want to welcome two new additions to the Charbonneau Ladies Niner Golf .
First is new member Louise Hendel . She recently moved to Charbonneau from Lake Oswego with the goal of going from a twostory house to a single level . As with many
|
of us she also moved to be closer to her two grandchildren , a boy and girl , ages 9 and 12 . She certainly is a professional at moving , having changed residences 16 times all over the states due to her husband ’ s career with Alcoa . At one point she moved every two years . My guess is she doesn ’ t want to add to that number , so hopefully she is here to stay .
Prior to retiring she was a tax person , experienced both in U . S . and international tax . Her preference was international as there was more appreciation for her work , rather than clients in the U . S . having a “ shoot the messenger ” attitude . In addition to golf , she enjoys water aerobics and reading . What really stands out about her is her willingness to volunteer . She was a volunteer with CASA for 10 years .
Also new to the Niners , yet 10 years in Charbonneau , is Ruth Bishop . With the encouragement of her husband , Ruth began to golf a couple of years ago . Then , recently while volunteering at the Wilsonville Senior Center serving lunch , she met Niner Mindy Berquist . After a bit of coaxing by
|
Mindy , Ruth decided she would give being a Niner and a weekly golfer a try .
After over 40 years of nursing Ruth retired two years ago . For the last 10 years she had been working for Kaiser Sunnyside as an Operating Room nurse . She has three children , two girls and a boy , and two granddaughters 18 months and 4 years old , who reside in Salem and Portland . Other activities she enjoys are walking , water aerobics , and basically anything outdoors . She has an inflatable kayak that she puts to use often on the Molalla River . No doubt Ruth will be a great asset to the Niners .
Our New Member Orientation and Social Member get together will have occurred by the printing of this article and , as in past years , I am sure it was beneficial to all who attended . At this event our Big Sister , Little Sister program is always welcome to our new members . The big sister volunteers help new Niners navigate their way through the golf signup processes , establishing a handicap , etc . along with just being a new friend . Niners … more than a golf club !
What is next for the Niners ? Be sure

to attend the Welcome Back Coffee on Tuesday , April 2 at 10 a . m . in the Clubhouse Dining Room . It is free to all Niners . Then in May is the first scramble and luncheon , “ When I grow up I wanna be a Niner ” on Tuesday , May 7 . Leesa Gango , the chair , has added a bit of humor to this event . It seems our season is off to a good start .
The Niners , in collaboration with the CWGA , are inviting both memberships to a very special event on Friday , April 26 at 9 a . m . in the Clubhouse Dining Room for a morning with Coach MJ aka MaryJo McCloskey . She is a winning golf coach and inspiring author of “ When Girls Win .” In her engaging and conversational book , she shares her journey toward developing mental toughness , building confidence and breaking through resistance . She will share her tips that will inspire you not only in golf , but in everyday life . The cost is $ 8 and the signup is in the Proshop . A continental breakfast will be served . Please make your payment to Charbonneau Golf Club . The women ’ s golf clubs in Charbonneau are proud to support women ’ s golf .
