4 THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER April 2023
A single can goes a long way for the Charbonneau Food Bank
By JEAN BRAULT
There is no question the Charbonneau community is a very generous one . Residents must constantly balance its spirit of generosity and care for others with their own real-life budgets . With that in mind , our message to you is clear : “ Give what you can when you can .” We organize periodic drop-off dates to facilitate giving . But you certainly should not feel any obligation to give every time — only when your spirit and pocketbook align themselves . As one of our volunteers said , “ Think of what one ‘ can ’ times 1,500 residents / households can achieve !” And multiply that by four , six or 12 times a year and we are on our way to significant assistance .
Speaking of outreach , we are aware we are yet to reach the whole community . One of our efforts toward that goal was the recent initiative to join Boy Scout Troop 528 , sponsored by Wilsonville American Legion Post 65 , and led by Scoutmaster Greg Will , in their drive to assist the Charbonneau Food Bank . Their effort resulted in 2,741 pounds of donated food to the food bank , with 827 pounds collected in Charbonneau . We designed our own promotional flyers and requested the Boy Scouts to deliver them together with their door hangers . They very generously agreed . To all of them and to the Development Director of the Cascade Pacific Council of the Boy Scouts of America , Jason McPherson , we offer our appreciation and thanks .
February results amounted to 695 pounds of food and paper items , and $ 695 ( same amount ) in cash and gift cards , significantly larger than January . The number of donors or pool also increased from 50 to 63 and we observed that many who donated in January also appeared again in February . Results from the March 22 drop off are not yet tabulated but were significant .
The drop off date this month is Wednesday , April 26 from 8:30 a . m . to 1 p . m . at the Activity Center . The food bank cannot accept cans / food items past their expiration date , so please check the expiration

of the items you are planning to donate . The items most in need are shampoo , feminine products and deodorant . But any item , cash or gift card is welcome . And remember the magic of “ one can times 1,500 .”
Thank you for your kind contributions . See you April 26 .
Country Club Estates forms neighborhood committee
By APRIL MARCELL
Country Club Estates is the only neighborhood within Charbonneau without an HOA . To become an incorporated HOA requires an unanimous vote of homeowners , which isn ’ t considered likely , and would raise dues as well . Currently CCE operates under the Charbonneau Country Club ’ s HOA , which has limited neighborhood participation .
At the urging of Charbonneau Country Club ’ s management and board , the residents of CCE were given the opportunity to form a neighborhood committee , similar to an HOA , to administer its affairs . The models used for this were the neighborhood HOAs within Charbonneau .
There are currently nine residents on the leadership team headed by April Marcell and Pat Hickman . Individual sub-committees handle communications , safety and emergency responsiveness , architectural requirements , landscaping and facilities , finances and social activities . CCE residents are invited to participate in these sub-committees .
The CCE Neighborhood Committee is meeting regularly . An annual meeting of CCE homeowners will occur in the fall , providing for resident input , election of members and officers , sub-committee reports and community information .
The immediate goals of the committee are to set up effective communications with residents , including a web portal , accurate email database and a feedback system . We welcome input , ideas , suggestions , concerns and participation from CCE homeowners . The committee can be contacted by sending an email to : charbonneaucce @ gmail . com .
