April 2023 THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER 3

Charbonneau Arts Association

By CATHI MCLAIN
This month ’ s theme is leadership , which led me to look for inspirational messages that might fit the theme and the role Charbonneau Arts
MCLAIN Association fills in the
community . With many to choose from , I thought the following presidential quote fit the best :
“ If your actions inspire others to dream more , learn more , do more and become more , you are a leader .” — John Quincy Adams .
I like to think that our annual Festival of the Arts inspires people to do more , whether it ’ s creating art , music , or crafts ; become more , as artists , volunteers , organizers and donors ; and learn more , as do the students who benefit from our contributions to their art and music classes . And to dream more is to build on all of the rest , whatever our ages .
We were thrilled to be able to complete our high school donation program from the 2022 Charbonneau Festival of the Arts with the presentation of a check for $ 5,500 to the art classes at Wilsonville High School . A similar donation to Canby High School was made earlier . Angennette Escobar , the head of the art department at Wilsonville High School , will use the funds to purchase :
New floor easels to replace old , broken ones Two drying racks for large works A much-needed work bench for the
Sculpture Program Two large paper cutters Art supplies to “ fill the gap ” for Digital Illustration and Animation classes
A screen tablet to replace a broken one
Supplies for a new stenciling project in the Photography Program
This was all made possible by record proceeds from the Silent Auction , artist fees and commissions , and sponsorships from individuals and businesses in Charbonneau and our neighboring communities
Become a sponsor
Sponsorship opportunities are now available for the 39th annual Charbonneau Festival of the Arts Sept . 22-24 . This is Wilsonville ’ s premier arts , crafts and music event , featuring the community of artists and artisans from Charbonneau and beyond , and all in support of the arts programs at Canby and Wilsonville High Schools . The 2022 festival enabled us to donate $ 11,000 to the two schools , the most since the program began . Sponsorship levels start at $ 150 and go up from there . Each sponsor receives free tickets to the Opening Night Celebration , an annual evening of champagne , live music , an art gallery , meet-the-artist opportunities and a student art exhibit . With each additional sponsorship level , more benefits are added , including the display of company logos in our print and digital advertising and onsite programs , on our website and in media releases . At the highest level , you or your company can be recognized as a title sponsor . There is also the opportunity to sponsor one or more of the music events . It is not unusual for individuals or couples to come forward as sponsors , such as Eric and Shirley Hoem ’ s sponsorship of the Jazz @ Charbonneau Music Stage last year , along with Kristine and Mike Jones .
For more information or to sign up , go to charbonneauarts . org / sponsors or contact closson . marye @ comcast . net .
In addition to sponsorships , the festival ’ s biggest fundraiser is the Silent Auction at the Opening Night Reception . We welcome donations of high-quality items from now until the event . If you have a vacation home , offer an in-demand service , want to offer your home and culinary skills for a gourmet meal , have some fine jewelry you no longer wear and anything else that you think will help , please consider donating it to the Silent Auction . You ’ ll receive an in-kind receipt to use for incometax purposes , and the sincere thanks of Charbonneau Arts . And if you ’ re interested in helping with this very labor-intensive part of our festival , please contact Elaine Swyt at eswyt @ mediaphysics . com . Elaine is the personification of this month ’ s theme , a leader who inspires others to dream more , learn more , do more and become more . She will welcome your help with the Silent Auction .
