SpringRidge at Charbonneau

Residents take on leadership roles within the community

Retirement living is often synonymous with carefree days , playing golf and relaxing poolside . And , while that is certainly true for residents at SpringRidge at Charbonneau , many have found a renewed sense of purpose in taking on a leadership role as members of the active retirement community ’ s Resident Council .
“ I love the responsibility that comes with serving my community and neighbors ,” said Pat Moore , now in her third term as treasurer . “ I come from a family of bankers , so this position was a natural fit for me .”
The former homemaker is responsible for keeping records of council funds , including donations that fund the annual Graduates Scholarship . To date , almost $ 130,000 has been donated to graduating high school students who work in SpringRidge ’ s onsite restaurant , The Charbonneau Room , with several scholarships being awarded each year . “ The young people do such a magnificent job ,” she explained . “ The scholarship program is a way to acknowledge their hard work and show our appreciation for a job well done .”
The Resident Council is an independent group that serves as a liaison between residents and SpringRidge ’ s management team . Meetings are held monthly to address residents ’ concerns and suggestions .
“ Executive Director Garth Hallman or a member of his team attends the meetings ,” she said . “ There is great communication between management and the Council , and they are very welcoming of our ideas .”
Examples of projects spearheaded by residents were the addition of a handrail to the staircase in the Charbonneau Room and an electronic vehicle charging station .

open relationship between the Council and the SpringRidge team . He has been a council member for five years and now serves as chairman . He spends about six hours per month volunteering with the Council .
“ I was asked to join the Council and decided to get involved after about a year of being at SpringRidge ,” he said . “ It ’ s truly an honor to be in this leadership position . I enjoy it very much .”
Both Pat and Don believe there is often a misconception that residents living at a senior living community don ’ t have a voice in community matters , which is simply not true .
“ How one wishes to spend their day is entirely up to the individual ,” said Don . “ You can do every activity on the calendar or do absolutely nothing . The choice is yours .”
Among the many choices offered at SpringRidge is Dine Your Way . The restaurant is open 12 hours daily , seven days a week , and residents enjoy a complimentary breakfast plus the choice of lunch or dinner daily , included in their monthly fee . Plus , residents have the option of dining alone or with neighbors - it ’ s all about choice .
“ The moment I walked through the doors at SpringRidge , I knew this was where I wanted to be ,” added Don . “ The more I looked , the more I liked . That continues to this day !”
The SpringRidge at Charbonneau campus offers a comprehensive menu of lifestyle options , including CARF-accredited assisted living and memory care services at SpringRidge Court . For more information or to schedule a personal tour , please visit SpringRidgeatCharbonneau . com .
