MCCONNELL-LISTER SUGARING PARTY Saturday, the smell of boiling syrup was drifting through the air at Sawyerville's popular party spot, Barry Berwick's garage. The McConnell-Lister sugaring tradition started many years ago right at the sugar camp, but for the past few years it has been held at Barry's garage. It is the perfect place to hold it–parking is great, people can walk to it, and after the sweet stuff, all can go inside for music and dancing until the wee hours of the morning. This year, like most, David McBurney and friends keep dancing feet mov- ing. Folks have to wear off that sugar somehow. The fun all started at 2 p.m. with the syrup boiling just right for paddles and sugar on snow. Both young and old lined up for a taste of spring's tonic. They were dipping and scraping all afternoon. The sugar on snow troughs were lined with both adults and children as well. Inside the garage David was playing old-time music for all to enjoy. It was the perfect afternoon for visiting with old friends and making new ones. A lovely pot luck supper was served at supper time and then it was time to party once again.
