SUGARING PARTY
Saturday, the smell of boiling
syrup was drifting through the
air at Sawyerville's popular
party spot, Barry Berwick's
garage. The McConnell-Lister
sugaring tradition started many
years ago right at the sugar
camp, but for the past few years
it has been held at Barry's
garage. It is the perfect place to
hold it–parking is great, people
can walk to it, and after the
sweet stuff, all can go inside for
music and dancing until the wee
hours of the morning. This year,
like most, David McBurney and
friends keep dancing feet mov-
ing. Folks have to wear off that
sugar somehow.
The fun all started at 2 p.m.
with the syrup boiling just right
for paddles and sugar on snow.
Both young and old lined up for
a taste of spring's tonic. They
were dipping and scraping all
afternoon. The sugar on snow
troughs were lined with both
adults and children as well.
Inside the garage David was
playing old-time music for all to
enjoy. It was the perfect afternoon for visiting with old friends
and making new ones. A lovely
pot luck supper was served at
supper time and then it was time
to party once again. This sugar
