Sourcing will increase from Tirupur;
Exporters proactive to change
Sanjeev Jain, President
& CEO, TQM Global
Buying, Noida
“I think we can do tremendous
amount of business in Tirupur.
About two years back, I was
sourcing very less from here,
but now it is nearly 30 per cent.
Quality is the strength of Tirupur
but price still needs to be worked
upon. Some factories have good
costing, while some companies
are having high overheads.”
Sarabjit Singh,
Manager, Siba
International, Denmark
“We are planning to start
sourcing from Tirupur, and for
the same, I visited the hub
recently. Currently our knitted
products are being sourced
from Ludhiana and we are now
looking at how Tirupur can serve
us better.”

UNIQLO looking to expand vendor base in India
Spokeswoman, in-charge of sourcing and production at the
UNIQLO India liaison office
“We are currently working with a few partners in India and are certainly aiming
to further develop our partner network here. The willingness and adaptability to
change and learn new things are the qualities we are seeking. We are looking for
establishing long-term partnership. Our systems are very peculiar; we need the
factories to deliver products that adhere to our quality standards. It’s an established
fact that Japanese companies believe in 100 per cent quality.”

The Warehouse, New Zealand opens sourcing
office in India
“In next 24 months, we plan to shift around 40 per cent of our
Apparel/Home business from China to India. A lot of our home
business is already here like bedsheets and towels. But we are
seeing lot of opportunity in the home decorative area as well. We
have got some big targets and are looking for 40 to 50 per cent
growth. We will be investing here and in Dhaka and then exploring
rest of the region as well. We have right now 15 people in Delhi
and 5 in Dhaka; and in 6 months since we started working from
India, we have seen a 250 per cent growth from last year. We
have been lucky that we have had good support of the business
to invest. By the end of FY ’19, we want to do 80 per cent of our
private labels as directly sourced.”– Team Warehouse.
Jag Mohan Sharma,
Sourcing Manager,
Buffalo David Bitton
(a member of Global
Brands Group), Canada
“Most of the knits are sourced
from Tirupur, but as we prefer to
have different or special products
with vintage look, different kinds
of wash and treatments, we have
limited options of the same in this
city. Tirupur has great potential
considering that China’s limitation
in this segment is increasing,
besides compliance fulfilment is
in favour of Tirupur. But the city
mainly does routine products even
today and we can’t find here variety
of products like outerwear..”
