Lenzing Group achieves another
milestone by unveiling sustainable fibres
LENZING™ ECOVERO™ and REFIBRA™
Sustainability is a
widely recognised
concern and priority
for the healthy
growth of the
society as well as for
the preservation of
the planet. With the
textile consumption
expected to
double by 2025,
the industry has
started looking for
more sustainable
solutions with low
environmental
impact. The Lenzing
Group addresses
this market need
by offering eco-
responsible
products that mark
a new milestone
in its sustainability
journey. In a
tête-à-tête with
Team Apparel
Online, Avinash
Mane, Commercial
Head – South Asia,
Lenzing Group
discusses the new
products and its
strong commitment
to sustainability.
S
tanding out among other fibre
manufacturers, Lenzing is making
its mark in the textile market by
being part of the several sustainable
initiatives and launching products
that set new industry standards.
“Sustainability has always been the
core strength of the Lenzing Group,
and taking the journey forward, the
company has bought forth two more
product offerings – LENZING™
ECOVERO™ branded fibres and
REFIBRA™ technology to the Indian
market to address the challenges in
the industry which concern how to
create more sustainable products,”
shares Avinash.
LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fibre is
sustainable viscose based on four
pillars: raw materials (which imply
the use of sustainable wood sources),
an ecological production process,
full transparency in the supply
chain and product decomposition.
Thus, the entire lifecycle of the

product is taken care of. At every
stage, care is taken to ensure that full
compliance to sustainable norms is
followed, right from procurement of
the raw material to post-use of waste
management.
The sustainable fibre is made of
wood, a natural raw material which
is sourced from sustainable forestry
plantations that are certified by
industry leading associations such
as FSC and PEFC. Coming to the
manufacturing process involved,
Lenzing has enforced strict
environmental standards during
viscose production and has invested
millions over the years in order to
achieve eco-friendly production
process. The product has significantly
lower emissions and water impact as
compared to the conventional viscose.
Nowadays, it is becoming very
important to know not only where
the products are coming from, but
also which path they have covered.
Lenzing has implemented a special
manufacturing process that enables
the user to identify LENZING™
ECOVERO™ fibres in the final product,
even after the textile processing and
conversion steps are complete. “With
this unique identification technology
for LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fibres, we
are supporting the increasing trend
towards greater transparency in the
textile and apparel industry. Thus, the
retailers and brands are assured that
they are incorporating eco-friendly
viscose and not generic viscose
available in the market,” explains
Avinash.
Furthermore, the fibre manufacturer
has ensured that products made out
of LENZING™ ECOVERO™ fibres
decompose on their own once they
reach a landfill or water body within
12-15 weeks’ time span, therefore,
leaving nothing as an add-on to the
nature. As per estimates, about 50
million tonnes of clothing end up as
throwaway every year thus reaching
a landfill. Concerned about this
alarming situation, Lenzing has come
