INDIA CANVAS To grab a bigger market share, King Laces has introduced value for money laces, as earlier it was only into high-end laces. Moving forward it is now planning to work on new techniques which are not prevalent much in Surat but being used in other hubs. Nilesh Ribbon Industries Manoj V. Jariwala, Nilesh Ribbon Industries Dalpat J. Kaswala, Director, King Laces Dinesh B. Jariwala, Swiss Ribbons Nilesh Ribbon Industries has recently increased its capacity by 20 per cent and which will be further increased by 10 per cent. Overall the company is producing 40,000 metres of laces and 8-10 lakh metres of ri bbon per day. It uses mainly polyester and nylon as raw material. Having awesome showroom and proper display of its designs, King Laces mainly uses viscose and cotton. The Director is of the opinion that the lack of any new technical development in the embroidery segment is a bottleneck, and ironically if some new machine like bead attachment machine does come to the market, its costing will be too high. “We focus mainly on product development and are using Arahne software from many years. It gives strength of quick development in designing. Currently, our total capacity is 1,70,000 metres per day. We have only one target and that is to improve our capabilities continuously, be it market research, technology, variety and latest kinds of raw material or product development.” manufacturing, the Indian industry is not up to the pace in technology as well as the use of raw material. India, and especially Surat, is surviving due to its strength or specialization in ethnic laces. Raw material which is mainly used or available, is also not as per the requirement of the international market, be it even the use of denier. In international market use of 50 to 60 denier is more prevalent, while in India it is comparatively hard to get the raw material for the same due to less use. “We are also trying to change our strategy to be more customer- centric, so our business more or less is going smooth. We have enhanced our focus on customer research and increased communication with them to understand the need, design requirement, etc.” he said and further added that as an industry, there is a need to focus more on quality rather than just focusing on production. Still there are some machines or technologies which are not seen in India. Whatever best technology India is using, is enough for short-term, but for long term and survival, it is not good enough, especially in regard to costing and required price points. Initiatives to cope with down sentiments New offerings, use of different techniques, change in overall business strategy, upgradation and more product development at the raw material level, are some of the key initiatives taken up by the lace manufacturers to tackle the current down sentiments. In recent months, Swiss Ribbons has enhanced use of different kinds of raw material like different yarns in polyester, nylon, viscose and cotton etc. as earlier its raw material base was limited. To grab a bigger market share, King Laces has introduced value for money laces, as earlier it was only into high-end laces. Moving forward it is now planning to work on new techniques which are not prevalent much in Surat but being used in other hubs. This might be able to attract some good orders. www.apparelresources.com | APRIL 16-30, 2018 | Apparel Online India 45
