As the largest producer of polyester fibre and yarn in the world with a capacity of a whopping 2.5 million tonnes per annum, Reliance Industries has taken its leadership role very seriously and has over the time earned a reputation for constant innovation that has kept the company not only in the No. 1 position on size alone, but also on innovation. RIL has made major investments in R & D for the polyester sector with Reliance Technology Centre, Reliance Testing Centre and Reliance Fibre Application Centre constantly developing and introducing innovative products for the textile industry. The latest in the series is R | Elan™, which has already found recognition with fashion retailers.
The Indian textile industry has been perceived globally as a cotton producing country and recognition for polyester has been low. However, of late the situation is changing as the demand for man-made fibres is picking up.“ We are witnessing increased acceptance of man-made fibres, in particular for polyester, in apparel, home textiles and technical textiles. The reasons for polyester market growing are its superior properties, ability to impart extra functionality and a value-formoney proposition to the consumer,” says Rakesh Bali, Senior Vice President & Head Marketing, RIL. He adds that the demand for Reliance products is even higher as the company has a perfect mix of commodity as well as speciality polyesters supported by a 360-degree customer-centric approach.“ We not only help our customers with a regular supply of their requirements but also help them with our product development support as well as market development initiatives,” augments Bali.
