including chemical management,
a major area of concern today.
“Though zero discharge
requirement is, as yet, not a
mandatory provision under the law,
buyers are driving the movement
aggressively and we are prepared to
guide the industry in achieving this
status by 2025,” shares Syful.
TÜV Rheinland labs in Bangladesh
are accredited as per ISO/IEC
17025:2005, by both NABL (India)
and BAB (Bangladesh), in the
areas of chemical and mechanical
testing. As of now, TÜV Rheinland
operates the first lab in Bangladesh,
which is provisionally accepted
with a GREEN Status. “The real
challenge is to educate over 1,200
companies in Bangladesh actively
involved in the export business, on
the significance and importance of
adopting measures that are green
and which require investment in
expensive technology,” reasons
Syful. He adds that for an industry
that is facing price pressures,
any additional cost is a matter of
contemplation as to whether the
investment made is critical.
The team at TÜV Rheinland
Bangladesh is not only well trained
to perform various roles, but is also
geared up to educate and talk to the
industry for change that enables
client success. “At times, we see
that companies cut corners and
the samples they send to us do not
represent the actual production.
As a result, differences appear in
results when the sample is tested
in our lab and when it is tested at
the destination,” says Syful. Since
the lab keeps all samples for three
months to a year, they are in a
position to explain to the companies
where they are going wrong. “We tell
them that creating trust takes years
and it takes only one bad incident
to break it,” says Syful, adding
that more and more companies are
taking testing seriously and not
trying to use approvals just as a tool
to push shipments.
Moving forward, TÜV Rheinland is
poised for a larger market share,
driven by the addition of new
facilities and state-of-the-art testing
equipment. “We have laid a solid
foundation and are growing fast.
This is the right time to consolidate
and strengthen our position in the
industry,” concludes Syful.

ith a few days away, the combined
tradeshow ITMA Asia + CITME
is all set to witness enthusiastic
response of the global textile industry.
Scheduled from October 15-19, 2018, the
exhibition will be held at the National
Exhibition and Convention Centre
(NECC) in Shanghai, China. Considered
as one of the largest technology events,
this is being jointly organised by the
Beijing Textile Machinery International
Exhibition Co. Ltd. and ITMA Services.
In addition, the Japan Textile Machinery
Association (JTMA) will also be partner
of the show. Earlier the show was
scheduled to be held in February this
year but due to a new national initiative
in China back then, the scheduling of all
events including ITMA Asia + CITME
was affected.
During the 5-day long event, the focus
of the exhibitors will remain on the
showcase of cutting-edge solutions.
More than 1,700 exhibitors will cover
around 1,70,000 square metres of
exhibition space. Approximately
1,00,000 visitors are expected to visit
the show from all across the world.
According to the event organisers, the
major categories of exhibits will include
– spinning, weaving and texturing;
nonwovens; braiding; research and
innovation; weaving; knitting and
hosiery; garment manufacturing and
embroidery; printing; equipment for
plant ops, logistics, services for textile
industry, software and testing; and
colourants, chemicals, finishing
and recycling.
Of all the participants, the Chinese
exhibitors have booked the largest area
of floor space this year, followed by
exhibitors from Germany, Italy, Japan
and Switzerland. Spinning machinery is
the largest exhibitor sector followed by
finishing and dyeing, knitting, weaving
and nonwovens.

is on the rise. This is pushing the
technology suppliers to come up
with their innovative offerings in the
country. Major exhibitors who will
mark their presence with their state-of-
the-art and cutting edge technologies
during the show are: Rieters, Karl
Mayer, Groz-Beckert, Stoll, Staubli,
Mayer & Cie, Monforts, Thies, Shima
Seiki, Jeanologia and Santex.
It’s worth noting here that the show
owners namely the European Textile
Machinery Manufacturers Association
(CEMATEX) along with the Chinese
Association Sub-Council of Textile
Industry (CCPIT-Tex); China Textile
Machinery Association (CTMA); and
China Exhibition Centre Group Corp.
(CIEC) are overwhelmed seeing the
massive response from the apparel and
textile industry.
“We had a long waiting list for space
by the deadline for applications.
Therefore, we made the decision to
book the additional space available
in the venue,” said Wang Shutian,
President, CTMA. According to Fritz
P. Mayer, President, CEMATEX,
the combined exhibition (ITMA +
CITME) has continued to garner strong
interest of the industry. “It proves that
our exhibition is the industry-leading
platform in Asia for textile machinery
manufacturers to showcase a wide
spectrum of cutting-edge solutions,”
commented Mayer.
