Shasha Denims seeks synergy
of vision with acquisition of
EOS Textiles
A
progressive company is defined
by its forward-thinking mindset
and execution of business activities
that are benchmarks in excellence.
Though Bangladesh is still struggling
to be known as a country that
manufactures fabric, there are a few
companies that are breaking the set
barriers and investing in textiles and
fabric innovations which one would
not expect to find in the country.
Among these frontrunners, Shasha
Denims Ltd. has recently made news
for acquiring 40 per cent share of
EOS Textiles, a sister concern of the
world reputed Italian company Berto
E.G. Industria Tessile S.r.L located at
Dhaka EPZ.
Though a young company, Shasha is
considered among the most innovative
denim fabric companies in Bangladesh
and has earned the reputation of
working with some of the most
discerning brands in the world like
Marks & Spencer, Zara, C&A, Cotton
On, Target Australia, George, New
Look, Tesco, Bestseller, Jack & Jones,
Dressman, Gina Tricot, LPP, Kiabi
and so on. “For us, success is not
about making millions and millions of
yards of fabric, but producing fabric
that is unique and sustainable,”
says Shams Mahmud, Managing
Director, Shasha Denims Limited.
He is credited for bringing in new
techniques in production not only to
assure quality and design, but also to
ensure sustainable practices in both
the fabric and processes.
Having been educated abroad, with
a law degree from the University
of Hertfordshire in the UK and a
degree in International Business and
Finance from New York University
in the USA, Mahmud has been
exposed to global realities in retail.
He understands that a country cannot
thrive on low-cost and high-volume
production alone. “Right from the
beginning, the effort has been to run
the company differently, to look for
global directions, predict them in
advance and be prepared before the
regulations and compulsions come
in,” avers Mahmud. This upfront
approach has led him on to a journey
of sustainability.

While the company moves ahead on
the path, the management continues
to look for opportunities that will have
a far-reaching impact in the future.
And staking claims in EOS Textiles
is a move in that direction. Mahmud
admits that though they were not
amongst the highest bidders for the
Italian company, the working culture
at Shasha and its shared business
philosophy played a big role in sealing
the deal. “The Italian giant, with
a legacy of 130 years, had a very
successful and profit-making business
in Bangladesh, but due to personal
reasons, the management wanted to
