TECHNOLOGY
IN FOCUS
Taking forward from the March issue —
wherein we gave you a synopsis on the
17th edition of Garmentech Bangladesh
and the innovative and cutting edge
technological interventions on display
— in this issue of AOB, we present to
you some more technology and solution
providers who participated in the
Garmentech’18 event alongside those
who made their presence felt in the 15th
Dhaka International Textile & Garment
Machinery Exhibition (DTG) (the largest-
ever trade fair of its kind in Bangladesh,
run from February 8-11, jointly organized
by the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association
(BTMA) and Yorkers Trade & Marketing
Service Co., Ltd.)
As Bangladesh continues to grow and
strengthen its position as the global
apparel sourcing destination, the need
for automation and technological support
becomes even important not only to
increase efficiency and production
capacities but also to cut down on the
increasing labour cost. In today’s time
of cut-throat competition coupled with
decreasing profit margins and ever-
increasing demands from the buyers, the
manufacturers need to find that unique
balance between manpower dependency
and technology to keep the business
profitable while also ensuring growth and
development.
GRO Z-BEC KERT
EXPANDS PRESENCE IN BANGLADESH MARKET
O
nce a company is successful
in gaining stronghold in a
country, it then aims to capture
and penetrate in other countries
as well. Groz-Beckert, a leading
provider of industrial needles,
precision components and fine
tools, after taking on the Indian
market, has eyed on the next
market Bangladesh.
The company opened its own office
in Bangladesh few years back
and is moving steadily to capture
a larger share in knitting and
sewing as well. Making quality
its priority, it has been receiving
good response from the market for
its knitting machine needles and
parts. The latest highlight of the
company is the advanced
digitalized version of INH Quality
Management system. In this,
the needle exchange station is
replaced by a mobile INH trolley.
When the needle exchange
person is notified, he/she moves
to the machine. The search for
the needle fragments begins at
the same time. The advantage
of INH trolley is that the
operator does not have to leave
his workstation. He can safely
deposit the needle fragments and
determine whether the needle is
complete or not. The trolley offers
leaner searching, documentation
and approval procedures.
In conversation with Apparel
Online, Andreas Dietz,
Managing Director, Groz-Beckert
East Asia, shared the company’s
strategy to tap the potential of the
Bangladesh market. The company
has recently opened a sewing
laboratory in Dhaka to capture the
sewing machines market as well
apart from the knitting machines. While the earlier version makes
use of manual reporting for
documentation of needles, the
digitalized version of INH, Smart
INH, allows the broken needle
parts to be photographed and
digitally stored. Thus, broken
needles can be disposed of
immediately and in an economy-
friendly way.
THE ADVANTAGE
OF INH TROLLEY
IS THAT THE
OPERATOR
DOES NOT HAVE
TO LEAVE HIS
WORKSTATION.
HE CAN SAFELY
DEPOSIT
THE NEEDLE
FRAGMENTS
AND DETERMINE
WHETHER THE
NEEDLE IS
COMPLETE OR NOT.
Presenting an appropriate ensemble
of various solutions and technological
interventions in this column, offered by
