RESOURCE HUB - 2018 < < Intertek to develop skilled manpower in Bangladesh RMG sector << Supporting the industry in 2018 < < Technology suppliers, solution providers, accessory makers join hands with the industry to beat the challenges and help it to keep growing Success and failure of any industry is as much a result of its efforts as it is of the supporting sectors, and for the Bangladesh readymade garment industry – which have had to negotiate a challenging year that 2018 has been and yet came out unscathed – the role and importance of the support systems was even more crucial, be it the accessory makers, solution providers or technology suppliers. Everyone chipped in their bit to make sure that no matter whatever the challenges, the growth and development of the industry went on unabated. If some collaborated to increase better penetration and services, others came up with new interventions and offerings and set up offices in the country for efficient client servicing and propelled growth. A few put in their efforts directly to enhance and improve the competence of the workforce – the ones who matter the most to the industry. The following are a handpicked few, without mentioning whose efforts, the special recap issue of AOB will remain incomplete. July 2018 Intertek, a total quality assurance provider to industries worldwide, has teamed up with the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), to increase the level of skilled workforce in the country’s garment manufacturing industry via its training courses. The fifth set of training courses will be provided by Intertek under Skills for Employment Investment Programme (SEIP) of the Government of Bangladesh that aims to create future leaders of the garment industry who will contribute significantly to the economic growth of Bangladesh. Under the training programme, Intertek, in association with BGMEA, will offer both classroom training and practical skilling as well on the shopfloor, to create practical awareness of quality assurance testing in the textile and garment manufacturing sector… With this latest collaboration in Bangladesh, the company will allow the country’s industry to create a pool of skilled labourers and to again move in the direction to reclaim its second spot in the global export industry with quality products. 46 Apparel Online Bangladesh | January 2019 | www.apparelresources.com << Sandeep Das Country Managing Director, Intertek Bangladesh “By supporting the SEIP project, we are strengthening the Bangladeshi garment and tex- tile workforce and supporting a new generation of lead- ers for this sector and our country.”
