Under the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles, an apparel cluster is to be developed in the Noida region. It is estimated that five lakh jobs will be created as a result of this special project. The park will be developed right next to the site where the Jewar International Airport is going to be developed on an area measuring 5,000 hectares. The 3,000 garment-manufacturing units in Noida employ thousands of workers in different capacities. In order to boost economic development in the region, the state government has asked the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) to develop an apparel park in Sector 29, which is located along the expressway. The authorities are confident that these developments will also boost the overall reputation of the industrial town. The establishment of a fashion street is also under consideration so as to bolster the town’s chances of emerging as a fashion hub, which will not only lead to industrial growth but also job-creation. The street will be modelled on the lines of the famed fashion streets of Paris. “The YEIDA has started the process of land allotment to about 150 investors, who will invest R5,000 crore in the apparel park, to be developed in Sector 29 in the next three years. We will manufacture all kinds of garments and accessories, including buttons, yarn and other materials at these units,” Lalit Thukral, President, Noida Apparel Export Cluster (NAEC), has said.
