FAIR UPDATE
CASTING A LUCKY CONNECT
The Apparel Industry was once again charged with eagerness as the 69th National Garment
Fair inched closer and closer. This very gusto amid the Industry Stakeholders was evident all
the more at the Draw of Lots function, which was organised on Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at
the Textile Committee Auditorium, Prabhadevi, Mumbai. Mili Doshi reports.
The Clothing Manufacturers Association of India
(CMAI) does not leave any stone unturned when
it comes to the planning and organisation of its
most coveted National Garment Fairs. In that
right, the 69th National Garment Fair is a true
testament to the Fair Committee’s collective effort
that makes itself visible season after season.
Preparations for the 69th National Garment
Fair, which is slated from July 15–18, 2019, at
the Bombay Exhibition Centre, NSE Complex,
Goregaon (E), Mumbai–400063, are in full swing.
The Draw of Lots function for the upcoming
Fair commenced at around 12.30 PM, at the
Textile Committee Auditorium, P Balu Road,
Prabhadevi, on Tuesday, June 18, 2019. The
event was fronted by core Committee Members,
namely, Mr Rohit Munjal, Joint Chairman, Fair
Sub-Committee, Mr Anand Chokshi, Joint
Chairman, Fair Sub-Committee and Acting Joint
Chairman, Membership and PR Sub-Committee,
Mr Ashok Thakkar, Member, Fair Sub-Committee,
and Mr Paresh Vora, Member, Managing and
Fair Sub-Committee.
The event kicked off with the drawing of lots for
the kids’ wear category, followed by menswear
and then, womenswear. Before entering the
arena, every participant was handed a brochure
mentioning the code of conduct and other
policies related to the Fair, along with a detailed

Floor Plan. As is the norm with every Draw
of Lots session, Mr Rohit Munjal opened the
programme by delivering a brief overview of the
Fair, and Mr Anand Chokshi followed suit. Mr
Chokshi essentially listed out the guidelines for
stall decoration, emphasising that those wishing
to decorate their stalls rather elaborately should
seek prior approvals from the Fair Committee.
He added that pre-fabricated materials (such
as frames, flex banners, etc.) for decoration
were welcome but at the same time, requested
participants to limit stall ornamentation as CMAI,
too, will be bringing its own design element to
the Fair.
