Moreover, Prosperity Textile, in partnership with
Jeanologia (a company specialising in garment
finishing using sustainable technologies) is
bringing laser- and ozone-washing technology
to China. This will, as the company says, help
to save up a considerable amount of water
and electricity consumption, as compared
to traditional washing treatments for denim
garments.
These recent strides (and many more) in
sustainable denim manufacturing are surely
going to change the face of the denim industry,
and with more collaborations and innovations
making a foray into this sphere, it is hoped that
we will collectively become more responsible
and mindful—in terms of both production and
consumption—in the years to come.
in modern denim circles. Lenzing is increasingly
focused on paving the way for sustainable denim
production, and it goes beyond raw materials
and production methods to do so. According
to the company, new depths of partnership and
newer ways to share knowledge and supporting
commercial innovation are also important steps
that aim for sustainability; Lenzing also actively
collaborates on a global level to realise this vision.
BROADBAND represents products that result
from such close, global networks. The capsule
collection redefines denim with unique fabrics
that combine Tencell™ Lyocell and Tencel™ X
Refibra™ fibres, cotton, linen, recycled cotton,
and spandex. These sustainable fibres are turned
into fabrics via latest technology in water- and
energy-saving production methods to create
denims that are environmentally considerate, from
fibre to finish. BROADBAND brings together two
distinct denim categories. SOFTWEAR embodies
all that is familiar, feminine, fluid, and functional.
Its counterpoint, HARDWEAR, ventures into
newer territory, where tailoring meets the detailed
minutiae of vintage garment-construction.
Tencel™ Lyocell fibres are derived from
responsible wood sources and follow a closed-
loop and resource-efficient production process.
The Tencel™ X Refibra™ process, on the other
hand, consists of upto one third of pulp from
cotton scraps procured from garment production
mixed with wood pulp to create what is probably
one of the most sustainable fibres on the
market today.
In another part of the world, China-based
Prosperity Textile is choosing the best-quality
cotton yarns available from sustainable sources
around the world—such as the Better Cotton
Initiative (BCI), Cotton LEADS, and more—to
craft its denim collections. The company is also
introducing innovative eco-friendly materials
that can be used in the making of denim, with
Repreve® fibres made from recycled plastic,
which is one of the key materials in use.
