OnJanuary29, anarmyhelicopterwiththreepeopleaboardcrashedintoacommercialairlineflightcarying64peoplenear ReaganNationalAirport. Al67peopleinvolvedperished. Whenamasscasualtyorcriticalincidentoccurswithintheregion, theAPDstandsreadytorespondwithmutualaidamongotherjurisdictions. AsalertstranspiredonJanuary29, theAPD respondedtoassistasaresultofthetragicincidentandcontinuedtoassistintherecoveryefortforthedaysthatfolowed. Theof�cerswhoassistedwerehonoredbytheMetropolitanWashingtonCouncilofGovernment, aregionalpartnership organization, recognizingover130�rstrespondersfrom morethan90agenciesfortheir“ heroiceforts” folowingthecrash.
