National Expertise & Best Practices

The department continued to lead the way in training programs . One such initiative , the Hate Crimes Training Program , was selected by the U . S . Department of Justice to be replicated as a best practices curriculum for other law enforcement agencies to follow . This training program was originally developed in 2019 and has now been shared nationally across the country . The department ’ s training includes support for the Shepard / Byrd Hate Crimes Prevention Act which expanded federal laws to protect the civil rights of all persons .
The department partnered with the Federal Bureau of Investigation along with other regional law enforcement agencies to create a program to combat online threats made against schools . “ Fake Threat , Real Regret ,” is an initiative to raise awareness and ensure students and parents understand the wide-reaching impacts of school threats . Each year , police agencies and school districts have to respond to a number of online threats directed at schools . While the vast majority of these cases turn out to be hoaxes , the incidents can cause fear amongst students , faculty , families and schools . To reverse these trends , Arlington , Fort Worth , Grand Prairie , and Mansfield Police Departments , along with the FBI-Dallas Field Office , joined forces with area school districts to launch the public awareness campaign .
