The City Jail is operated as
a temporary holding facility for
detainees that are arrested in
Arlington. In some cases, arrestees
were able to be released directly
from the City Jail and in other
cases, they are transferred to the
Tarrant County Jail depending on
their case. The unit is made up
of sworn and professional staff
employees. In the last year, 12,071
arrested persons were processed
in the booking facility. The
department also has dedicated
jail transport officers who pickup
Annual Report 2017
prisoners around the Metroplex
that are being held on Arlington
misdemeanor charges. In 2017,
officers transported 908 arrestees
to the Arlington Jail.
Detention officers underwent
mandatory Crisis Intervention
Training in 2017.
This additional
training
identifies ways
to diffuse
situations in
the jail and
offers alternative methods to
de-escalating conflict and having
more awareness as it relates to
mental health issues and individuals
under the influence of a drug.
The Warrant Unit initiated
a volunteer program last year
where citizens work in each
of the patrol districts to make
telephone contact to persons who
have outstanding misdemeanor
warrants in Arlington. This is an
innovative way to raise awareness
to citizens before an arrest is
made. The unit was able to clear
55,474 arrest warrants in 2017.
