The Property and Evidence
Unit houses all items pertaining to
criminal offenses, found property,
or safekeeping. The unit is
staffed with a sergeant and seven
professional staff employees.
Officers book evidence and other
items into Property and Evidence
24-hours a day. The unit also
provides regular customer service
hours for members of the public
inquiring about items.
In 2017, the unit disposed
59,216 items which was almost
20,000 more items as compared to
the year before. Property disposal
is achieved through court orders,
destruction of illicit contraband,
case dispositions, returning
property to owners and other
requirements set forth in legal
statutes.
The unit increased cross-
training of all personnel to assist
with enhanced service delivery
options to better serve the
department. As an example,
employees may be trained in

several different categories from
working the customer service

items. The unit was also able to
conduct a massive clean-up of the
bicycle storage shed to make the
acceptance of bikes more efficient.
Team members also worked with
Research and Development to
improve data conversion and
inputs with the new Records
Management System.
