The department partnered with NOT IN OUR TOWN to host a film screening of Waking in Oak Creek. The screening placed awareness on issues to address hate, bullying, and build safe, inclusive communities for all. Not In Our Town also began filming for a best practices video production that will air in 2017 that includes some key initiatives that APD is doing to make Arlington better.
The department partnered with the University of Texas at Arlington and International Association of Chiefs of Police to host a PROCEDURAL JUSTICE SUMMIT. Dr. Tom Tyler, Macklin Fleming Professor of Psychology at Yale Law School and a leading academic researcher of procedural justice concepts, served as the keynote speaker. United States Attorney for the Northern District of Texas John Parker addressed the audience on key topics related to collaborative reform and consent decrees. This event was well attended by city managers, attorneys, and area police chiefs.
