WHO HIRED YOU INTO THIS BUSINESS, AND WHAT’S YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM TODAY? WHO HIRED YOU INTO THIS BUSINESS, AND WHAT’S YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THEM TODAY?
I was hired by a community manager named Sandy in Columbus, Ohio
as a 20 year old college student. My real break came after college when
I was hired by Melissa Cox to be an operations troubleshooter at Lane
Company in Atlanta. I stayed with Lane for 8 years and am fortunate
to still consider her and a number of other people I worked alongside at
that company close friends. YOUR “GO TO” INTERVIEW QUESTION? Give me a
specific example of someone at risk of losing their role in your
company and what you did to save them. BEST OR WORST DECISION YOU MADE IN
LAST 6 MONTHS: Best – hiring the professionals we’ve added to our team
over the last 6 months. Worst – underestimating the challenges and
potential impact of what seemed to be a straightforward enhancement
to our existing technology platform. WHAT CAN DEVELOPERS DO DIFFERENTLY WHEN
DESIGNING A PROPERTY? Spend the money and make the effort to develop
communities that architecturally compliment rather than detract from
the surrounding neighborhood. There are so many communities under
construction today that look alike or are simply missing that connection
to the neighborhood. AN AMENITY YOU WISH YOU COULD INVENT? Something that
gets used consistently, has long-term staying power and facilitates
relationships between residents. IF YOU COULD LIVE IN ANY SITCOM, WHICH ONE
WOULD IT BE? Modern Family BINGE-WATCHED EMBARRASSINGLY FAST: Schitt$ Creek
FIRST GUEST ON YOUR TALK SHOW: Sir Richard Branson MOVIE TITLE BEST DESCRIBES
YOUR WORK LIFE: Last year, I would say the Tom Hanks movie – The
Terminal due to my travel schedule. Today, It’s A Wonderful Life. HOW DO
YOU MOTIVATE PEOPLE? Noticing and recognizing team members for small
wins in addition to large. It isn’t always overcoming a milestone, but all
of the accomplishments along the way. FAVORITE TEAM BUILDING ACTIVITY?
While not planned this way, in early 2019 we had a team operations
retreat at The Broadmoor. What made it the best could have easily
made it the worst. We arrived at The Broadmoor as the bomb cyclone
hit. We were stuck at the hotel for 2 nights and could barely even
traverse from one part of the hotel to another. As a result, we had an
incredible bonding experience and accomplished far more than I
expected. THREE FAVORITE APPS: iMessage, Waze, LinkedIn BIGGEST PET PEEVE?
Negativity. CAREER HIGHLIGHT: There are two things in particular. That I
started on-site and have worked in virtually every role between a part-
time leasing professional and my current position. The ability to
understand from an on-site perspective is invaluable. I am fortunate to
have learned from the best people in the business, but I also held myself
accountable for expanding my own knowledge. I am lucky to have
been in positions to help people find their path in an industry with so
many long-term opportunities. One of my passions is to help recruit
new talent and help them along the path. I am proud to be able to do
that at RedPeak. ONE ITEM ON YOUR BUCKET LIST: Travel is always on my list
and is a passion. One item near the top of my list is to see the
Aurora Borealis. Deanna King was my Property Manager at the Renaissance
Apartments in Denver. We are still in touch! I am so thankful that she
took a chance on me! YOUR “GO TO” INTERVIEW QUESTION? If you were a CEO,
what would your first priority be? BEST OR WORST DECISION YOU MADE IN LAST 6
MONTHS: Best -Traveling and going on more adventures with family and
friends! Worst: Not getting to the gym more. AN AMENITY YOU WISH YOU COULD
INVENT? Spa Services- You could either go to the on-site spa or you could
request spa services in your apartment home! IF YOU COULD LIVE IN ANY SITCOM,
WHICH ONE WOULD IT BE? Not really a sitcom, but I would say SNL. I love
entertaining and making people laugh! BINGE-WATCHED EMBARRASSINGLY FAST :
Stranger Things FIRST GUEST ON YOUR TALK SHOW: Martha Stewart, she has a
fascinating story and life. MOVIE TITLE BEST DESCRIBES YOUR WORK LIFE: Pitch
Perfect. We all play an individual role, but together, its perfect harmony.
HOW DO YOU MOTIVATE PEOPLE? Team outings, and in the moment praise and
support! FAVORITE TEAM BUILDING ACTIVITY? I love so many, but I would say
speed dating. I always learn something new about people when I do
this activity! THREE FAVORITE APPS : Spotify, LinkedIn, and Instagram BIGGEST
PET PEEVE? Inconsistency and words with no action. Do what you say you
are going to do! CAREER HIGHLIGHT : A highlight in my career, was my first
Director of Training opportunity at Redpeak. I grew the most
personally and professionally there! ONE ITEM ON YOUR BUCKET LIST:
Backpacking through Europe with my family!
