The AAMD consulted with industry subject matter experts and de- veloped six core competencies. The Maintenance Apprentice- ship Program (MAP) will consist of 48 hours of hands-on mainte- nance training and a minimum of 96 hours of a paid on-site internship with Industry Partners. In November 2016, the AAMD applied to the Colorado Department of Labor and Em- ployment (CDLE) for the WORK Act Grant. It was announced in April that the AAMD had been award $474,000 to assist in these ef- forts for the MAP. There are five programs scheduled to take place over the next 12 months. The first pro- gram is scheduled to begin in July 2017. It is the goal of the AAMD to have a minimum of 20 students per program to reach a total of 100 new maintenance professionals in the industry by June 2018. The AAMD has hired a New Talent Recruitment and Outreach Manager and invested in a new media campaign to en- sure that these goals are met. The MAP is reliant on recruit- ing qualified individuals to enroll and complete the program. In addition, it is crucial that Indus- try Partners participate in this program by hosting at least 100 interns over the next 12 months. The hope is that the demand for the program training and exposure to the industry will increase dra- matically. According to the 1st Quarter 2017 Apartment Insight Construction report, there are 27,187 apartments under con- struction, which will create more than 200 jobs in the next two years.
