Attitude captures the zeitgeist
According to travel website Booking. com, 77 % of French travellers want to travel in a more responsible way( 2023 report). The growing number of‘ ecoresorts’ around the world reflects this trend. For Attitude, sustainable tourism is not just a marketing exercise: it’ s part of the Group’ s DNA. 15 years ago, the Attitude Hotels Group committed to making a positive impact on the world, while remaining faithful to its economic ambitions; if that means shaking the industry up and disrupting its norms, go for it!
“ Shaking things up” begins with a rethink of sourcing methods. At Attitude, 52 % of the foods and beverages served are labelled‘ Made in Moris’, and that’ s only the beginning: 30 % of the dishes served in the group’ s 4 * hotels are vegan or vegetarian. Each establishment also has its own packaging-free bulk shop, contributing to the elimination of single-use plastic from the customer experience.
Disrupting norms also means redefining the role of the employee. Otentik Dinner is a perfect example: once a week, guests are welcomed into the home of an Attitude Family Member for an enjoyable evening. They lend a hand, perhaps share a glass of rum with their hosts, and form new friendships while supporting the local community. What’ s more, 100 % of the proceeds go back to the host family!
Capitalising on local talent
On top of supporting numerous local cultural events, Attitude also works with Mauritian companies such as Topo Sorbe( which recently replaced Magnum in the Group) and Indika, which manufactures natural spa products. The Group takes this commitment even further in their hotel boutiques- spaces dedicated to local brands, with 3 % of sales going to the Attitude Foundation.
Promoting local talent also means offering it a place in which to express itself. This is the goal of various Group initiatives, including the national music competition Konpoz to Lamizik and the Talk Series, a forum for dialogue on the issues that really matter.
By taking concrete actions that support artists and craftspeople, as well as its employees, Attitude is creating a more responsible form of tourism, rooted in the local environment – and they’ re just getting started!
