interview

Anzzia: Yeah.

Valeka: There is a different rehearsal process. You can be artistic with a team and craft it. When you do a show you're rehearsing for four weeks when you do a show. You're rehearsing eight hours a day, you know what I'm saying? Six days a week. So, it's in effect to how well you can craft and not hold back, you know? Television, you know where you are there with your cast going through twelve hours. Your crafting a character, you know what I mean?

Anzzia: Yes.

Valeka: The only difference I would say is, I mean of course in theater you have to project but, I do think theater actors make better actors overall. Because the training is just different in regards to developing a character. The way a theater actor learns how to work off of a camera, learning that the camera is your friend, a theater actor will just always go there. Once they figure that out. I mean telling the truth is telling the truth. No matter what the medium is. A lot of the times you will see them gloss over all of that. You can't gloss over anything in TV and film. Because the camera picks up everything. But, you have no choice but to be true. But, in theater, you can hide. So, once you have an actor who is truly rooted in truth, who doesn't hide. I think they can work in all of the qualities they need.

Anzzia: Our conversation previously we talked a little bit and you mentioned you were originally going to college on a track scholarship. A full ride. You ultimately gave up your track scholarship for theater and started your journey from there on. Can you tell me a little bit about the process of making that decision and how it’s impacted your life thus far?

Valeka: I guess I really did love acting, right? /laughs

Anzzia: Exactly!
