La Luna
She is an example of what makes for a successful dam in different organizations such as that of Tanoira and Ellerstina. Apart from her, over ninety ponies from her pedigree got to play the Opens, starting with her own offspring, we have managed to count 18 triple-crown playing ponies by 10 different sires. With Sobornado she had Open Chita; Open Califa and Gete Eclipse, a horse played by the Novillo Astradas that travelled abroad. With Sun Gulf, Open Geisha, dam to OPEN GUILLER- MINA, and with a stallion that was a failure as a sire La Luna also produced good foals, which goes to show her extraordinary maternal consistency. With Pucará she had Open Xelene, played by Gonzalito in several Opens; also Gete Luna Llena; Gete Medialuna— also an Open-playing pony played by Santiago Chavanne—; with Plin- Plin-Plin she produced Open Moon, played by Gonzalito at Tortugas, but which died after that, and with Ilusionado she bore Open Jasy, played for several years by Lucas Monteverde in the Opens. With Rainbow Corner, Open Luna Nueva, played by Gonzalito; with Guindado she bore Gete Laika; Gete Lupa and Gete Estrella, all played by Santiago Chavanne for several years in the Opens; with Pucará Virtual she produced Gete Sorda; with Bolche, Gete Galaxia, a mare that Mariano Aguerre used to lend to Matías Magrini and which in turn was dam to Machitos Galilea, one of Mariano Aguerre’ s best mares last season, and which played Tortugas through to the Palermo final. She was also very successful at producing stallions: Open Sunset and Open Espacial each with over 10 of their offspring playing the triple crown when still very young; Gete Menguante also produced considerable offspring; Gete Franela; Gete Fragor. LA LUNA’ s female offspring has been very generous in dams; they already have several granddaughters playing at Palermo: Open Geisha with different sires; Open Guillermina with Optimum; Fina Sony with Open Chismoso, and Open Nipona with Ellerstina Pícaro have already played Open tournaments. Open Moon produced Fina Sedna, playing up to two chukkas in the Palermo final under Nachi Heguy; Open Xelene produced Open X1 X3; Open Patilla with Rainbow Corner; Open Jasy produced Machitos Jazmín, best playing pony in La Aguada’ s thirty-goal tournament. She then played at Tortugas and Hurlingham under Mariano Aguerre.
La Luna already boasts five generations of High-Goal-playing ponies through two daughters of Open Cheta, daughter of Open Chita and Rainbow Corner, which never played. One played under Facundo at Tortugas, and another under Jaime García Huidobro. Open Chequera, together with another mare, are the only ones that played when still very new. Open Cheta looms as a very good young donor at Ellerstina.
“ Facundo, what is outstanding about Open Chequera?"“ She’ s a mare that doesn’ t seem to suffer the strain of long seasons; she’ s always well. In 2014 I played her at Tortugas, Hurlingham and Palermo, and she played well right up to the last final. I am sure that if we’ d had to play another match her performance would have continued being faultless.”
“ She displayed top form in the final …”“ Yes, she played a very good match. It was the first time that she was awarded the horse blanket for a horse at Palermo. This year I also experienced this in England with Open Galáctica, and in Spain with One Magnífica. A short time back at Hurlingham and also at the Palermo final.”
“ You are closing a very good 2014 as regards ponies, aren’ t you?”“ Actually, yes. Proof of this is that we received several nominations during the whole of the season. It is an award that goes to all the organization, because it is the work of all the year and much more so during the season. We are very happy, but the praise is due to all the group of people we have working at Ellerstina.”
“ What is your opinion of this system of awards by the AACCP in these tournaments?”“ It is very good. All of it: the prizes and the nominations, because they are useful in order to get statistics regarding which the male and female bloodlines are that work well, and that helps to continue improving the breed.”
