CHRISTIAN WOMEN’S JOB CORP Christian Women’s Job Corp’s, a ministry that originated with the WMU in 1997 and has been dedicated to touching and changing lives by assisting women in becoming self-sufficient in Christ. This is a national organization with over 200 sites in 34 states with sites being started every day. There are four things each site has in common: Each is operated in a Christian context. Each has Bible study as a major part of the curriculum. Each participant is paired with a Christian mentor to encourage and serve as a spiritual leader. The mentees give back. In 2007, CommonBond site was formed under the umbrella of the Bradley Baptist Association. We have had eleven classes over the last ten years. Classes are structured to include life skills, money management, boundaries and goal setting, career assessment, resume writing, interviewing, job searching, business communications, Bible study and other topics the participants may need. The four major pieces of CWJC are: Training, Mentoring, Networking and Giving Back to the Community. This ministry will be available to all women of the community regardless of race or religion. Participants will be required to: • Complete an application, interview and career assessment • Attend life skills and job readiness training • Work with a woman mentor for a minimum of one year • Participate in a weekly Bible study and other planned activities that will help them achieve their goals. The vision of CWJC is to work together with the community to make a difference in the lives of women and children who live in poverty, who may be hungry and who believe they have little or no hope of escaping the cycle of poverty. CommonBond is about helping women; it’s about changing lives; it’s about changing futures.
