Monash Arts scholarships Thirty students from Sunway College, City of Islington Sixth Form College, and City University participated in the annual Monash Arts Scholarship Contest. The three winners were awarded scholarships. The half-day event introduced the social sciences and humanities, and the various areas of study available at the School of Arts and Social Sciences to pre-university students through four challenges. A similar contest was also organised in Colombo, Sri Lanka, for 32 participants from various colleges, international and national schools such as the British School in Colombo, Bishop’s College, and Devi Balika Vidyalaya. ENGINEERS WITHOUT BORDERS The Engineers Without Borders student chapter at Monash University Malaysia (EWB-MUM) is a dedicated group of student volunteers who are interested in creating change through humanitarian engineering. Living with Parkinson's With the intention to educate patients and enable them to communicate with health professionals, the Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences and Malaysian Parkinson’s Disease Association co-organised a seminar on Parkinson’s disease. It was attended by 73 patients and caregivers. Monash Science Cup Around 80 Year 12 students from various colleges and high schools participated in this science competition, completing six activities in food science, chemistry, environmental science, genetics, biomedical science and microbiology. More than 30 staff members and postgraduate students helped to make this event a success. Positive Living The Positive Living Community is a centre that provides shelter and support to people living with HIV and AIDS. In 2015, led by Dr Babak Salamatinia, our students began a three-phase project with BlueScope Steel to renovate the centre's residence in Selangor. The project is now in its third and final phase with the roofing system and external walls completed, and the interior walls and electrical wiring soon to follow. GoodKids Teaming up once more with GoodKids Malaysia, a social enterprise that aims to empower youth through performing arts, our students supported a series of activities throughout the year. Volunteers helped the children build musical instruments for GoodKids League, a performing arts competition, and organised a basic electrical and programming workshop as part of the GoodKids Career Day for the older children. Finally, EWB-MUM hosted the GoodKids League competition on campus where the children used recycled and handcrafted instruments to deliver a musical performance. 38
