INDUSTRY ENGAGEMENT Engagement with the industry is vital in fulfilling the following key objectives: to ensure that our students are learning skills that will prepare them for a successful and varied career; and to build partnerships with national and international external stakeholders to address contemporary challenges in an impactful manner. This year saw an increase in activities and developments in industry relationships involving research projects, career development, student engagements, workshops and conferences. MOA with Hovid Berhad and National Heart Institute of Malaysia PARTNER HIGHLIGHTS Sunway Group Leveraging on our partnership with Sunway Group, the campus has engagements with Sunway subsidiaries covering research projects, student engagement, internship and graduate placement. Meetings were held with Sunway Paving Solutions Sdn Bhd, Sunway Quarry Industries Sdn Bhd, Sunway Marketing Sdn Bhd, Sunway Lagoon Sdn Bhd and Sunway Malls to deepen academic and research collaboration. Islamic Banking and Finance Institute Malaysia A small delegation of academics from the School of Business met with the learning and development unit of the Islamic Banking and Finance Institute Malaysia (IBFIM) to discuss potential for our Islamic Banking and Finance units to build up to professional certifications offered by IBFIM. Hovid Berhad and National Heart Institute of Malaysia Monash Malaysia, through its research and development arm MMR&D, signed an agreement with Hovid Berhad and National Heart Institute (NHI) of Malaysia to undertake a clinical trial study. This research collaboration on 'Prospective Clinical Trial on the Prevention of Atrial Fibrillation post CABG using Tocotrienol' hopes to yield positive outcomes that could benefit society in general, especially heart patients. The study is conducted by Dr Ahmad Farouk Musa and Professor Rusli Nordin with co-researchers from NHI and Universiti Sains Malaysia. MOA with Perkin Elmer SELECTED AGREEMENTS MOA with Fiatec Bioactive Sdn Bhd for the development and testing of an artificial sugar replacement. Research agreement signed with Relivium Science Sdn Bhd for provision of research services to analyse traditional medicine samples. MOU with the Malaysian Textile and Apparel Center for development of low-cost automation strategies in apparel factories. MOU with the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers for education and research initiatives, including mapping and exemption of undergraduate units in the Bachelor of Business and Commerce towards the Chartered Banker certification. MOA with Perkin Elmer on the establishment of a centre of excellence for Analytical Instrumentation. MOA with Sunway Pharma to provide training for Bachelor of Pharmacy students at their retail outlets. Other placement sites were also secured with the Ministry of Health in the polyclinics at Kuala Selangor, Titiwangsa and Putrajaya. MOU with National Sports Institute to promote joint research and education activities related to sports and health among the general public. MOA with Malaysian Software Testing Board to incorporate their materials into Software Engineering's teaching curriculum. Malayan Banking Berhad The campus organised an academic visit to Maybank, one of our key industry partners. Fifteen academic and professional staff took part in this visit which discussed opportunities for deeper engagement and to adopt work integrated learning components within the curriculum. Malaysian Rubber Export Promotion Council A Certificate of Cooperation was established to access the Council's Industry Linkage Fund. This collaboration aims to move the rubber products industry up the innovation value chain via university research and development initiatives. 23 MOA with the National Sports Institute
