KEY EVENTS
Roundtable Discussion: Learning Outside
the Classroom
Transforming Education through
Trailblazing Education
This one-day seminar was organised by the Campus Education
Management of Monash University Malaysia and the Monash
Education Academy of the Office of the Vice Provost (Learning and
Teaching) to discuss trailblazing innovations and new approaches for
higher education transformation in Malaysia.
Conference on Education Excellence and
Innovation
This conference brought together universities, technical and
vocational education training institutes, government and industry
players to discuss academic leadership, communication, technological
innovation, external engagement and issues of access in higher
education. It was organised by the Campus Education Excellence unit
with Malaysian Research Education Network, and in collaboration with
Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine and Health Sciences and Monash
Education Academy.
Work-integrated learning (WIL) activities at Monash are classified into
three broad groupings – placements, projects and field trips – to
address our priority themes of scalability, entrepreneurship and social
impact over 2017-2020. Of these activities, field trips (and study
tours) are a curricular activity that remain strongly discipline-focused,
which is expected, but often lack elements of industry input and/or
career context. This roundtable explored strategies to more strongly
articulate the value of field trips for employability skills and career
development, and the greater involvement of industry to generate
scale and social impact through WIL at Monash.
RSD Master Class and Workshops: Developing
students’ research skills
Under the patronage of the Campus Education Committee, the
Library and Learning Commons organised a series of Research Skill
Development (RSD) workshops. The interactive workshops were
facilitated by Dr John Willison from University of Adelaide, and several
librarians and learning skills advisors from Monash University Australia
and Malaysia.
