Final Mile Salute and Escort Honors Larry Martin, US Army

In a moving tribute to honor the life and service of Veteran Larry Eugene Martin, the James A. Haley Veterans ' Hospital in Tampa, Florida, held a Final Mile salute and escort on August 5, 2025.
This special ceremony was a testament to the commitment of the hospital, community members, and Veteran organizations to ensure that every Veteran receives the respect and recognition they deserve, even if they pass away without known next of kin.
Larry Eugene Martin was an honorably discharged Army Veteran who dedicated a significant portion of his life to his country. Born in a small town, he felt a deep sense of duty and enlisted in the United States Army on July 10, 1964. His years of service were marked by courage and resilience, particularly during his time in Vietnam. From July 18, 1965, to April 17, 1967. After his honorable discharge on April 17, 1967, Mr.
Martin made his home in Lakeland, Florida. Though he led a quiet life, his contributions to the nation ' s security and freedom were never forgotten.
“ The Final Mile program at James A. Haley Veterans ' Hospital was established to honor Veterans, like Mr. Martin, ensuring they receive A dignified burial and a final salute,“ said VA Policeman Payne.
This program brings together community members, and Veteran organizations like the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association( CVMA). VA staff provide a heartfelt memorial service and escort for Veterans who pass away without known next of kin.
