Message from the Chair
New election model framework among year ’ s key successes

In reflecting on the past year , I am proud of the important work CPSO has accomplished and the changes we have adopted . First and foremost , it was my pleasure to be a part of the Board ’ s work in modernizing CPSO ’ s governance practices and , in particular , our competency- and diversity-based selection process for elected Board Directors . To support the new election model , the Board approved the mix of collective skills , professional backgrounds , and lived experiences collectively desirable in Board Directors to effectively oversee the medical profession .
The new process is designed to achieve a balanced Board composed of qualified directors who also reflect the diversity of Ontario ’ s population and the practice of medicine . The model , which also represents a shift from a district-based election model to province-wide elections , will go into effect in spring 2025 .
In 2024 , the Board also approved a new foundational resource that sets out CPSO ’ s expectations related to professional ethics . The Essentials of Medical Professionalism articulates the values and duties at the core of medical practice , provides guidance to CPSO registrants , and serves to inform patients and the public about what they can expect from the medical profession .
CPSO ’ s Strategic Plan provides the framework for this significant work . While the Plan was originally set to conclude in 2025 , the Board voted to extend it to 2027 because of its continuing relevance to this organization ’ s strategic goals . I am confident that this framework will support the Board in completing the important work already underway .
As this Board has sharpened its focus to deliver on the vision set out in the Strategic Plan , I ’ d like to thank the Board Directors for their commitment to the organization , as well as Registrar and CEO Dr . Nancy Whitmore and her staff . The culmination of the year ’ s significant hard work is reflected in this Annual Report .
