Chair Message

Making progress through transformational change

Ibegan my term as President of the CPSO Council and completed it as Chair of the Board of Directors . Updating terminology to become more inclusive in our language was just one of the ways we began to transform our governance model to align with best practices .

We approved a move to province-wide elections , continued to ensure broad diversity and skill sets among the Board Directors and began the process of modernizing our public register to enhance its accessibility and ease of use by the public .
Our work continues to be informed by our ongoing understanding of how issues of Equity , Diversity , and Inclusion ( EDI ) affect the care individuals receive . In 2023 , we approved a policy that provides guidance on how physicians can provide safe , inclusive and accessible health services , and in our Dialogue publication we explored issues for patients with disabilities and those who are experiencing homelessness . We recognize that EDI in the practice of medicine is an ongoing discussion , and these conversations are vital to ensuring that the care we provide is serving the public in a manner that always puts patients front and centre .
I am pleased to be working with 2024 Chair Ian Preyra and my fellow Board Directors to operationalize our new governance model , including developing a competencybased selection process and facilitating province-wide elections , to better enable us to maintain the public ’ s trust in the profession , and support physicians in their practice .
The year ahead promises to be one of growth , and I look forward to seeing the next steps of our transformation unfold .
Dr . Rob Gratton 2023 CPSO Board Chair
