The Crofton House School Foundation is responsible for investment and stewardship of endowed , restricted , and general funds , which it holds and manages for the exclusive benefit of Crofton House School and its students . Such funds support the School ’ s financial assistance program and other purposes , all of which are aligned with the strategic plan of the School as determined by the School ’ s Board of Governors .
The Foundation is a separate registered charity , incorporated in 1980 , with its own Board of Directors appointed by Crofton House School , which is the sole member of the Foundation .
2023 –2024 Highlights
For the 2023 – 2024 school year , the Foundation ’ s Board of Directors approved a charitable disbursement of $ 575,168 to the School to support an array of activities and initiatives , including the School ’ s financial assistance program .
All committees of the Foundation were established by the Foundation ’ s Board of Directors , who are responsible for appointing all committee members . Note that the Finance Committee represents the recent amalgamation of what were previously the Audit Committee and the Disbursement Advisory Committee .
• The Investment Advisory Committee of the Foundation , chaired by Richard Durrans , advises the Board of Directors to ensure that appropriate investment policies and procedures are in place and followed . The Foundation is responsible for the investment management of over $ 14 million in assets . It does this through a relationship with the independent investment firm Connor , Clark & Lunn , based in Vancouver .
• The Finance Committee of the Foundation , chaired by Ross Turnbull , advises the Board of Directors to ensure that appropriate accounting policies and procedures are in place and followed . In addition , it oversees the stewardship of the 47 internal funds within the Foundation to ensure that all disbursements are accounted for and distributed to the School in accordance with the specific terms of reference for each internal fund .
• The Nominating and Governance Committee of the Foundation , chaired by Lorne Folick , works with the Nominating and Governance Committee of the School ’ s Board of Governors to ensure ongoing succession planning for the Foundation ’ s Board of Directors . It also ensures the appropriate membership on each committee of the Board so that the Foundation may fulfill its mandate in the best way possible .
Looking forward , the Foundation will continue to support Crofton House School through the prudent and successful investment management of the assets it has been entrusted to oversee , and by honouring the wishes of the donors and the funding priorities established by the School . As Crofton House embraces its new strategic plan , the Foundation is poised to continue supporting the School into the foreseeable future .
