Meaningful Engagement 2021
CPSO took a firm stand against the “ infodemic ” of COVID-19 disinformation . On April 30th , we published a statement clearly setting out our position on the matter and our expectations of Ontario physicians when it came to sharing information about the virus , vaccines , and public safety measures . The statement , in part , said : “ Physicians hold a unique position of trust with the public and have a professional responsibility to not communicate anti-vaccine , anti-masking , anti-distancing and anti-lockdown statements and / or promoting unsupported , unproven treatments for COVID-19 . Physicians must not make comments or provide advice that encourages the public to act contrary to public health orders and recommendations .”
Statement on Exemption Guidance
Throughout 2021 , so many Ontario physicians were brought to the breaking point by the pandemic , even as they worked to maintain this province ’ s very high standards of care . As a medical regulator , we knew there were specific ways we could collaborate with and assist the medical community through these unprecedented times .
One of those ways was to put out some clear and accessible guidance around COVID-19 vaccine exemptions , which we did in the fall . We reinforced what the specialists had determined , that there
