Quality Care 2021
QI Individuals – Groups Subset Program Peer and Practice Assessments
Encouraged by the feedback received from physicians , we piloted a subset of this program to allow participants the option of forming small groups ( of up to seven members ) with other practising physicians . The Groups Subset Program allows individuals to participate in the same online QI reflection activities – however , this program option allows for group members to collaboratively develop and submit a single Practice Improvement Plan . Participants have the option of forming a group comprised of physicians from similar practices or practice areas and practice locations different from their own .
Within our Quality mandate , we also maintain peer and practice assessments for physicians over the age of 70 . In 2021 , we assessed 637 physicians aged 70 and over . Because of the pandemic , we pivoted to a virtual format for many of these assessments . We reduced our large network of assessors to improve consistency to a smaller core group . We believe this smaller band of assessors allows us to be more nimble and consistent in our assessments .
Quality Partnerhip with Hospitals
The first round of invitations to the QI Individuals program for 2022 were sent in the fall of 2021 , and 260 physicians have opted to participate in this option to date ( within a total of 72 groups ).
Supportive QI Coaching
For those physicians who require additional support , one-on-one coaching ( QI Individuals ) and group coaching ( Group subset ) is provided . Coaches work to support QI participants to enhance and refine QI goals to make them more achievable . On the rare occasion the QI Program is not able to adequately support the physician in their quality improvement activity , a focused Peer and Practice Assessment in Quality Assurance may be recommended by CPSO ’ s Quality Assurance Committee .
The CPSO ’ s QI Partnership program offers an opportunity for hospitals with an established quality improvement program to work with the College to deliver a single quality oversight program . This partnership allows physicians to engage with QI initiatives that are most meaningful and relevant to their clinical environment and align with their organization ’ s strategy . By the end of 2021 , more than 20 hospitals had signed on to the partnership . More information about this initiative is contained in the System Collaboration section of this report .
Healthy Doctors , Quality Care
Patients are best served when physicians who care for them are well . This means recognizing limits imposed by fatigue , stress , or illness . Even before the arrival of COVID-19 , the College recognized that many physicians were
