Right-Touch Regulation 2021
Right-Touch Regulation in Policy
In 2021 , we applied the principles of Right-Touch Regulation to policy development by :
Approving a Complementary and Alternative Medicine policy to deploy a risk-based framework that respects physician judgment and patient autonomy while ensuring that decisions to offer these treatments consider the patient ’ s specific needs , the strength and support for the treatment , and the potential for harm .
Approving a Delegation of Controlled Acts policy recognizing that a one-size-fits-all approach is not possible and that flexibility is needed based on risk .
Committing to the continued modernization of our approach to regulation , and the evolution of medicine as it pertains to methadone and the treatment of opioid use disorder more broadly . Early in 2021 , Council rescinded the College ’ s Methadone policy , program standards and guidelines . We ’ re treating methadone like all other approaches to addressing opioid addiction – relying on general prescribing requirements and looking to clinical practice guidelines to inform practice .
Revising existing registration policies to reflect streamlined process changes and bring increased clarity to applicants and the public .
Accelerating the review of the Virtual Care policy to be nimble in response to all the learnings that have occurred with the pandemic
