BLOCK SCHOOLS AND HOMES
Our mission at Classroom of Hope has always been about providing children with access to quality education. In recent years, we have expanded our vision to ensure we are conducting our work sustainably for our planet, tackling the plastic and climate crises while we continue to tackle the education crisis. We are doing this with our Block Schools program, in which we build schools with Blocks made from recycled plastic waste.
The inception of our Block Schools program truly began as a result of the 2018 earthquakes that devastated Lombok, Indonesia. With over a thousand schools destroyed on the island, we were looking for a building solution that would allow us to construct safe, sustainable schools that were also earthquake-resistant.
Block Solutions is a Finnish-based company that has invented an innovative Block technology to build sustainable, earthquake-resistant structures using recycled plastic waste. Since constructing the world’s first Block School using Block Technology in June 2021, Classroom of Hope, in partnership with Classroom of Hope Indonesia, has built five more Block Schools in Lombok.
With over a thousand schools destroyed on the island, we were looking for a building solution that would allow us to construct safe, sustainable schools that were also earthquake-resistant.
