OUR STRATEGIC PRIORITIES

1 : SOLUTIONS FOR LIVING LANDSCAPES

Sustaining natural resources for current and future generations requires evidencebased , landscape-level solutions , built on community needs .
We continued working closely with landholders ; community and Traditional Owner groups ; industry , science and technical bodies ; and all levels of government to improve land condition , maintain and restore biodiversity , and protect waterways and the Great Barrier Reef . Our projects – led by science , and supported by communities – demonstrated how sustainably managing natural resources can go hand in hand with promoting productive land use .

IMPROVING WATER QUALITY TO THE REEF

This year we continued promoting better farming practices to reduce sediment , nutrient and pesticide runoff , and improve farmers ’ bottom line and resilience . This work was supported through a combination of Australian and Queensland Government funding , under the Reef Trust , National Landcare Program Phase 2 , Queensland Reef Water Quality Program , and the Queensland Natural Resource Investment program .
GROWING A GREAT BARRIER REEF
We are a proud member of the Reef Alliance , a partnership between industry , regional Natural Resource Management ( NRM ) bodies , and the conservation sector .
Together we are delivering the $ 45.6 million Growing a Great Barrier Reef project , funded by the Australian Government ' s Reef Trust program .
Under the project , which began in 2016 , we have been working with graziers and cane growers to improve water quality to the reef . So far :
• 313 participating growers are improving nutrient and irrigation efficiency across 21,188ha – which will prevent 179 tonnes of dissolved inorganic nitrogen ( DIN ) leaving farms ; and
• 106 grazing enterprises are undertaking practice change to reduce sediment erosion across 464,698ha .
Based on these successes , we secured funding to extend this project , through the Great Barrier Reef Foundation .
